Upgrading to a Newer Version

If you are using an older version of Microsoft Office or an Autodesk product and want to move to a newer release, the upgrade process depends on the product type.

Upgrading Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office perpetual licences are version-specific. This means an Office 2019 licence will not activate Office 2021 or Office 2024, and an Office 2021 licence will not activate Office 2024.

To upgrade to a newer version of Office, you will need to purchase a licence for that newer version.

How to Upgrade Office

1. Purchase the newer version you want from your regional GetRenewedTech website
2. Uninstall your current version of Office
3. Restart your computer
4. Download and install the new version using the link from your new order confirmation email
5. Activate it using the new product key provided with that order

On Windows

To uninstall your current version of Office:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Go to Programs > Uninstall a Program
3. Find Microsoft Office
4. Uninstall it completely

For a more complete removal, you can also use Office Tool Plus.

Download Office Tool here:

Once downloaded:

1. Open the extracted Office Tool folder
2. Run Office Tool Plus
3. If prompted to install .NET, install it and then reopen the tool
4. Click Toolbox on the left-hand side
5. Next to Remove Office, click Remove

On Mac

Move the Microsoft Office applications from your Applications folder to the Trash, then empty the Trash before installing the new version.

Will My Files Be Affected?

No. Your documents, emails, spreadsheets, and other files are stored separately from the Office installation. Upgrading Office will not remove your personal files.

Upgrading AutoCAD or Other Autodesk Products

Autodesk products work differently from Microsoft Office.

In many cases, an Autodesk licence gives you access to more than one supported version of the software. This means you may be able to install a newer version without needing to purchase a separate new licence.

How to Upgrade an Autodesk Product

1. Sign in to your Autodesk account
2. Go to the Products and Services section
3. Find the Autodesk product assigned to your account
4. Click Download
5. Choose the newer available version you want to install
6. Install it on your computer

In many cases, Autodesk versions can be installed alongside older versions, so you may not need to uninstall the previous version first.

For Autodesk, check that the version you want to install is available under your Autodesk account and that your computer meets the system requirements.
