32-Bit vs 64-Bit — Which Version Do I Need?

Modified on Thu, 2 Apr at 6:37 PM

What Is the Difference?
32-bit and 64-bit refer to the type of processor architecture and operating system your computer uses. Most modern computers use a 64-bit version of Windows.

Microsoft Office
Our Office product keys work with both 32-bit and 64-bit installations. The same key will activate whichever version you install.

If you are unsure which version to choose, 64-bit is usually recommended because it can handle larger files and make better use of system memory.

Windows Product Keys
Our Windows product keys also work with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows, provided the edition matches the key you purchased.

Autodesk Products
Current Autodesk products, including recent versions such as 2023 onwards, require a 64-bit operating system. They will not run on a 32-bit system.

How to Check If Your System Is 32-Bit or 64-Bit

On Windows

  • Open Settings
  • Go to System > About
  • Look for System type under Device specifications
  • It will show either 64-bit operating system or 32-bit operating system

On Mac
Modern Macs use 64-bit architecture. If your Mac supports modern versions of macOS, it will be using a 64-bit system.

Which Should You Choose?
For most users, 64-bit is the best choice. It is the standard for modern software and is required for newer Autodesk products.
